gray ochre of ancient seafloor graphitic iron schist
washington mountains, USA

glimmering, playful flaky jewel of a mineral

carbon-based mineral that contains mica, graphite, trace iron, pyrite and other elements

made in an ancient sea-bed, don’t ask me how, the geology is beyond me.

not a true ‘iron-based’ ochre, though closely resembles commercially available grey ochres, so I include it in the archive

cld make a great pencil or drawing medium, if you knew how to

a little finicky with binders, will show-off plate like granulations and shimmer in unpredictable ways. for watercolors or paints, try grinding at a finer level
